I was thinking that the WKA and/or IKF bumpers is what they are talking about?
Not those big honking rental plastic bumper pods.
These...

Not these... Even though it mounts the same old way
That page you liked to has these IKF legal and these WKA _________________ Warning!

If it is the metal ones, that's not as bad.
I didn't want any more plastic. It's too easy for people to bash it in, and have to replace it. I'd much rather metal. At least it's sturdy. _________________ CKRA Race Announcer

...and the metal ones will fit a 4 stroke kart. Most of the plastic CIK rear bumpers are 53" wide. There are kid kart ones but they are too narrow. KG has an adjustable one for narrow 4 strokers but not near 50" iirc.
I am afraid this will take away the effect of the break away noses in the higher classes as there will be little chance of the nose being knocked off. _________________

Here is the KG Tris bumper, it adjusts from 39-46" wide, fine for most but not sure how much of the tire needs to be covered yet... I'm always at 50" so it would cover most of the tire.

Update from ASN
Still tells us nothing...
Karting Rule Change for 2010 Clarification - The full-width rear bumper requirement will apply to all karts. Generally, chassis that have been homologated with full-width rear bumpers will be required to use the homologated bumper. Non-homologated karts, such as 4-cycle, will require a full-width rear bumper to the specifications that will be supplied by ASN. |

This is so vague. I have no idea what kind of bumper/bumper bar I have to go buy for this. I really hope I don't have to buy that butt-ugly and useless plastic. It makes the kart look like a rental kart, and it will break off/cave in too easily. I know we will have to get like a million of those. Plastic nose cones and those plastic rear bumpers are the worst things ever created... They should be metal. The only reason they have it in plastic, is so people can buy endless amounts of them because they don't last. _________________ CKRA Race Announcer

| They are plastic for a few reasons to be light weight, to absorb the energy on impact, and are designed to be disposable. A metal bumper can only be bent a few time before it cracks and it purpose is comprised. I would rather replace a plastic bumper then a bent frame... |

This is Jared...
I have been punted by guys who have had their nose cones knocked off. Trust me, metal on metal contact hurts. Nose cones should be plastic (its a brilliant idea), I think the rear bumpers could work just as metal with the extended bars over the rear wheels.
Just wait until January when the 2010 book is official and hopefully it is a little more concise as to what is required. |

The "new" rules are out, the 2010 regulations are the 2009 regulations including any 2009 bulletins and the new bumper rule found here;
http://www.asncanada.com/2010_Karting/ASN_2010_...ection_Feb-10.pdf
Any kart not homologated with a rear bumper (pre 2009 in most cases) can run either plastic or steel provided it covers atleast half the rear tire but does not exceed the width of the kart. _________________

| We will get to that the wording is just not there yet. There is not a bumper made that meets the wording. |
