Hey folks,

Potential new guy from the west coast. Recently got a job offer to move out to Halifax and join my partner who's already out there. Question is, how is the car/race scene on the east coast?

Google search unfortunately yielded a lot of broken links and such. I've a 1980 Porsche 911 that I've been autocrossing for the last 2 seasons and I'm just a tad OCD about bringing it over with the salt, lack of storage as we'll be living in the south end, and possibly even lack of events (2019 calendars aren't updated yet it seems).

Should I bring it over? If I do, what events are there and when? Are there big cars and coffee meets in the summer?

Appreciate the help!

If you do, you may inspire me to bring my 1980 911 back out to play with you 8)

Try this calendar instead maybe:
http://www.armsinc.ca/event-calendar/

Of course I’m in NB, but you’d see me at Regionals...

Stacy

Bring it ! Autocross locally and regionally, plus lapping and time attack at Atlantic Motorsport Park. And if you want to rally there is a Golf for sale right now. Winter storage is available. Sucks if it is your daily as well. But, Bring it!

if you're interested in autocross around Halifax, ASCC is the club. Facebook is the main advertisement means, but you'll also see info on this forum and the calendar.

We have the old Shearwater base for autocross events but dates are not finalized as far as i know. The government fiscal year determines this. the events are fast, technical and well attended. definitely bring the 911 out here.

plenty of winter storage options. many people store their cars in the basements of parking buildings in halifax, or put them in storage facilities outside halifax.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Forgot to mention that I absolutely will be bringing it out for track days at AMP as well.

However, I know NS has an biannual inspection component. Will a "modified" car typically pass? I've Recaro's Profis in the car, SSI's, and other minor little things here and there. All safe obviously, but I don't know if they're sticklers for originality.

Generally speaking, mechanics tend to overlook small things with regards to inspection, especially if they know you are an enthusiast. There's not very many mods I can think of off the top of my head that would cause a car to fail M.V.I. outright.

No issues with modified cars. cars will pass MVI with rust holes that are filled with expanding foam and covered in asphalt undercoating. our MVI laws are very relaxed.

Yeah, you're going to want to store your 911 in the winter. Our climate is horrific on cars.

Don't forget Targa Newfoundland and Targa Bambina as well.

Just don't go to canadian tire for an MVI. I'd recommend ISI Automotive, Steve is a club member and he knows his german cars.

ASCC slalom schedule won't be finalized until likely march/april this year. Planning for 5 events at shearwater, 2 at digby airport, 1 at scotia speedworld and 1 at the stoneridge church in sackville if we can get it. Starting in May (or June if we don't get the church event) and going until the end of September.

There's also the regional slalom series that Stacy mentioned. Slalom @ Slemon Airport in PEI is always a good time and easily the best venue on the east coast.

ASCC events get posted here, but also follow our FB page if you use FB: https://www.facebook.com/AtlanticSportsCarClub/

It's confirmed, accepted the job offer so I'll be heading over (driving from Vancouver) in the winter beater.

The 911 will hibernate until April when I'll have it shipped over.

In the summer, are there weekly cars and coffee events? Back home there is typically one to two weekly events open to everyone. I remember seeing a small gathering at Point Pleasant Park back when I was visiting in September.

Looking forward to meeting you folks on the track!

There's a Cars and Coffee group, they're not quite weekly but they seem to do regular events all through the warmer months.

Glad to see you've been talked into bringing it! There is a lot of great events where you can bring it out.

There is also a local PCA chapter here as well (Acadia Region).

http://www.acadiaregionpca.org/

We have a couple of DE Track Daze events at Atlantic Motorsport Park race track, as well as some other social events (Porsches on the Lawn, Show n Shine, driving tours, tech sessions and other related events).

Welcome to the East Coast.

Welcome to the Region!

+1 on ISI for MVI and any other automotive needs.

Well, it's raining and about +7 here right now, so it shouldn't take long for you to arrive and enjoy them. Until it "plummets" back to -8 for a couple of days :P
