Cleaning up my summer wheels last night and discovered a crack in the lip on one of them. Is alloy wheel repair a safe option, generally? If yes, can anyone recommend a local shop?

Did a good job for me on a bend. Don’t know if they can handle that crack, but would be worth asking.

I have a similarly cracked wheel (it actually has two cracks on opposite ends of the lip), reached out to one local companies who do the repairs and was quoted $170 and they wouldn't guarantee it because it was two repairs on one wheel.

So now I'm trying to find a spare one on Kijiji/Car-Part/forums etc.

Rods machine shop in burnside can do this sort of grind/fill/smooth work. Is this crack from a bend being straightened out? Thats a pretty big crack, and i can guarantee it is much deeper than you can see!

Thanks for the suggestions, I will check out wheelworx and rods. I discovered that Dent Wizard in Burnside also does alloy wheel repair.

@ Greg, the crack goes right through the lip, from inside to outside. I'm not sure how it happened, I've only had the car since Sept. Maybe I bought it that way or maybe it was a pothole that I fell into...

Are they OEM wheels? They kinda look like Honda wheels to me. If they're easily replaceable, that might be a safer route. Fatigue cracking in aluminum can be insidious.

They are OEM wheels from a Mini. I've considered replacing it but very difficult to find used (read: impossible) and the OEM price is insane ( @#!$ BMW), so it would likely result in 4x new aftermarket wheels. Totally agree, ally doesn't respond well to fatigue. For now, I will take my chances as I don't want to blow my annual tuning budget on rims.

FYI, Mariner Forge is going to fix the crack foe less than half the price of Rods m/c shop.
