Servers are setup for the season. See you tonight.

Reading on the iracing forum and there doesn't seem to be any clear answer to which car is better. The MP4 has a bit more top speed for faster tracks, the AMG seems to be easier to drive, the Z4 maybe better all around, but there was also speculation that iracing makes the new cars just a touch quicker so people will buy them, so maybe the 448 will be quicker until they do a BOP adjustment? Unfortunately I only have the the MP4 but thinking might try the AMG or Z4 this season.

We've been going through some renovations, lately. I haven't had any seat time. I'll buy the 488 and try it, but I suspect I'll go back to the Z4. Daytona International...that's the track you have to purchase (not the 'free' 2007), correct?

I'm hoping I'll be able to join you guys, this evening...if I can get at my setup!

Yeah, it's the pay version of Daytona. It should be easy to tell if you don't have it because there will be a "buy it now" button where the join race button normally is in the session list.

Daytona results posted.

Art and I with the wins last night. Good to see a few more drivers out last night.

Was surprised to be on pole with the AMG as had just bought the car before the race and grabbed a setup off setupsync. Pulled ahead a couple seconds on the opening lap while Tom and Art got sorted then Art kept whittling away at the gap. Art in the R8 seemed quicker in the infield but the AMG would pull away on the oval sections. About 3 laps from the end it was down to a second when I went into T1 a bit too hot and spun leaving Art cruise to the end.

Second race was looking good as Art, Trevor and I were very close in qualifying. Trevor had the good start this time and lead into T1. Nice that we got through their unscathed as we were essentially 3 wide at one point. Trevor unfortunately had a spin on the exit of T1 after the first lap so it was Art and I again. Was holding him off until I ran a wide on one of the slower infield corners. However was able to gain on him a bit each lap and with about 3 to go I was setup nicely to catch him after the bus stop. Unfortunately Art had a slide in the middle of it and there was just enough for me to slip by. My turn to cruise to the finish.

Should be interesting to see what happens at Monza next week without the chicanes.

Heh. Well, I showed up with 10 seconds left in Quali. No practice...haven't driven a GT3 car since last season, and I just bought Daytona. I did the first race with the Z4 and a setup from Road America. I was running out of gear on the oval. For the second race, I grabbed a Setup Sync setup and things went better. Somehow, I didn't finish last in both races. I think Randy was having some issues with the handling of the 488.

I like the Z4...but I still need to try the 488 and the Merc.

Fun track...wish I had more time at it. Looking forward to Monza...just bought the track.

The AMG was 1.5 sec faster for me on a back to back at Daytona earlier today. Higher top speed and better turn in, power down.

Monza without chicanes is wacky. Feels like taking short cuts through gravel traps. Not much challenge.

Just for an FYI with the GT3s. The Balance of Performance currently favours the AMG the most and it is generally the easiest car to drive. The Audi is second though it's murder on the curbs. The 488 has been cast off a bit, but if you can find a good setup it's quick. The problem is iRacing kind of nerfed the 488 this season after it whooped everyone's ass when it was first released.

It took them three seasons to make the Audi functional after completely %#@!& it up in 17S1 so it would end up crashing over curbs.

They are a little special when it comes to the GT3 BOP.

I still can't make it through either carousel at the ring in the Audi without bottoming out and losing it.

My team had to do a lot of work with the R8 to make it work on the ring. That was a problem even before they bunged it up. It only got catastrophically worse when they did the BOP change. It's sad, but most GT3 races are just a sea of AMGs.

Monza results posted. Sorry for the delay, iracing was off line for maintenance this morning. Great to see a few more people back and the grid into the double digits.

Monza without the chicanes wasn't as straight forward as I was expecting. T1 was flat but had to get the turn in just right or a lift was required. Then the bypass for the second chicane seemed to be an afterthought. It was bumpy and if clipped the curb a little on the way in it was a wild ride.

I was on pole for the first race but there were a handful of us in the 1:36s. Almost a repeat of Daytona, Art and Tom took a few corners to sort themselves out at the start which left a 2s gap back to Art in the Ford. Unlike Daytona, the gap stayed there for almost he entire race. Great run Art, including fastest lap.

Second race started P2, but the AMG pulled alongside by T1 and Art had to back off on the outside. With only a 0.5s gap figure we were in for a good scrap, but next lap around he tried to take T1 flat and the car ran wide into the gravel. Was impressed that he recovered and only lost a couple seconds. That put him back into the reach of Rick and Tom. Once they got sorted Art was still just a few seconds back, so it was another focused run to maintain the gap until the end of the race.

WG without the bus stop next week should be another interesting track in these cars.

Fun night. Nice to see double digit grids.

I tried the 488 the other night and didn't like the 2 setups I tried. Maybe with some more work and time or a change in driving style, it might work. Randy's 488 was like a rocket at the starts, but not as quick through the turns. I also tried the Z4 at this track, and (as my favourite GT3 car) I was happy with it at Monza. With all of the discussion about the Mercedes, I decided to buy it and try it last night. I found a decent setup and was quicker it that than the Z4.

Steve and I had more fun in Quali sessions than we did in the Races! lol We couldn't help but race each other! He had a quick setup in the Mercedes...I don't know if it had any wing, but I think it may have been a handful in the corners.

Paul Machan showed up for the 2nd race. Steve and I had some fun with him. Steve and Paul's race pace was excellent. Unfortunately, both of them crashed and ended up a lap down. To add insult to injury, Paul ran out of gas on last lap. He likely jumped into the race at the last minute without any practice or knowledge of what was required for fuel. I dumped in 13.5 gallons to be sure I didn't run out. In hindsight, I probably had too much wing, but the car was great in the corners.

Watkins Glen should be fun.

I realized after I was finished snowblowing that it was race night so I hopped in for the last race in time to do one qualy lap.
Forgot to change fuel and ran out twice. I crashed just before running out the 1st time, then while pitted for damage, I didn't put enough in and ran out again.
Rookie!
The track was fun, the AMG's seemed to have a pretty good top speed advantage there though.

There's no point in fighting it, the AMG is the fastest car to have.

Jay and I had some good runs in the qually sessions, I was wearing out his rear bumper with the bump draft lol. Races didn't go so good for me. I had good starts in both but in race 1 lap 2 I got put in the wall in turn one by the Ford, and in race two I was too aggressive over the curbs and had a tank slapper and backed it into the wall and needed a tow. Good balance through the field, lap times are tightening up, I may not be so courteous next time as to leave a car width for someone being optimistic. I'll likely leave the choice of pavement or grass out of their hands.

Another good turnout. Race 1 was a good battle between Art, Paul and I. Started behind Paul and Art, but the Ford GT is slow off the line so Paul and I in front up the hill. The BMW was slow at the top of the hill so I cruised by Paul before the bend. Then we stayed like that for the rest of the race. Was helped a bit by Art harassing Paul. I think Art might have even passed him once or twice on the straights only to lose out again on the next turn. At the end we were covered by 1.5 seconds.

Second race Paul switched to the AMG but he started mid pack then must have had some issue with the officials. Art on pole with another slow start and I was by before T1, but Trevor came through on the inside to lead out of T1. Followed Trevor for a lap and once again I was faster at the top of the hill (AMG vs AMG). Art was by Trevor after a couple laps. Thought Art was going to catch me as he was closing in bit by bit but then the gap would open up again. Gap was down to a couple seconds at the finish..

Interlagos next week.

I missed the 1st race due to an error with the anti-cheat software for some reason, had to remove and re-install the sim.

I made the 2nd race and it was fairly un-eventful, started 4th, got to 3rd and stayed there, could do nothing to catch Scott/Trevor, gap grew to 6 sec and stayed about there all race, similar gap to Art in 4th.

That was fun, love the circuit, very tough middle technical section. Im not sure what happened to Jay in the first race going into T1 on lap 2. I drafted him up the front and then went outside to go by and he started shading over. He ended up with the worst of it and I lost a couple spots. Race 2 I had a great start from like 7th to 3rd maybe, then got picked off over the distance and finished about where I started. Track was super hard on tires too, I was hanging on for dear life at the end of both. Still trying to find a couple seconds on you fast guys.

Interlagos is one of my favourite tracks. I usually go better here than other tracks, but I don’t think I had a good set up in the Mercedes. Still, I had some fun racing moments. I had a good start with the turn 1 incident, getting past Steve in turn 2. On the start of lap 2, we were side by side braking into turn 1. I was on the inside and started to feel my rear end oversteering away from the corner. This slight touch was enough for me to crash and have to wait for a long tow.

For race 2, I dropped my rear wing from 4 degrees to 2 degrees. This made the car better for turn-in braking and on the long straight. Towards the end of the race, Randy started to catch me. We had contact going into turn 2, and he got by. I lost some time but was able to continue on to the checkered flag. The McLaren appears to be quick in the straights.

Need to practice at Zolder. I might try the Z4 against the AMG.

Nice to see Scott back!

I just stick to the baseline setups, I find them good enough and easy to drive on all tracks, maybe not the fastest, but I find usually when I try someone's setup its almost always too loose for me, and I have a hard time with consistency.
Baseline is always good for me to just hop in and go, which is mostly what I do, join late, no practice, so I don't get to dial in a setup typically.

That’s a good point, Paul. I tend to use the Setup Sync and I’m almost never happy with the setups offered.

I’m going to try the baseline setup and then play with the brake bias.

I generally stick to the baselines, I may play with camber a little if the tire temps are way out of wack, and also usually flatten out the wing a few clicks.

Thanks Steve. I’ll try that to. Often, I’ve noticed that my tire temps are out of whack (cooler on the outer) and I think I might be running too much rear wing.

I used my team's setup from the 24 hours of Daytona, just because that's what was in the car when I joined the session. lol

No practice for race 1. Joined midway through qualifying. Began to find some speed for race 2, but Trevor was more consistent and took both wins. Was fun!
